The 26-year-old made four appearances for Chelsea, the most famous of which was his first start for the club when playing impressively alongside Branislav Ivanovic in central defence, he helped keep a clean sheet in a 2-0 win at Liverpool in April 2014, striking a major blow to the Reds’ title hopes.

Kalas joined Chelsea full-time in January 2011 having signed a pre-contract agreement with the club the previous summer.

He then spent time on loan at Vitesse Arnhem before Jose Mourinho made him part of the Chelsea squad for the 2013/14 season, handing the player his debut as a substitute in a League Cup victory at Arsenal.

While a Chelsea player he became a Czech international, making his debut for his nation in November 2012.

Further club loans followed at Cologne, Middlesbrough and Fulham before his switch to Bristol City where he played 41 games last season.
