Academy midfielder Conor Gallagher has signed a new contract and joined Charlton Athletic on loan for the 2019/20 season.
The 19-year-old enjoyed an impressive season last term, putting in strong performances for our development squad and picking up the Chelsea Academy Player of the Year award. After signing for the club at the age of eight, he won every trophy on offer at the Under-18 age group, as well as the Under-17 World Cup with England in 2017.
Gallagher featured in Frank Lampard’s first pre-season game in charge against Bohemians in Dublin, as well as our trip to Boston in May, and was an unused substitute in the Europa League final.
His new Chelsea contract commits him to his boyhood club until at least 2022 and he will now link up with Lee Bowyer’s newly promoted Addicks in the Championship for his first experience of senior football on loan.
