In his first press conference at Cobham as Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard had updates for the media regarding the fitness of N'Golo Kante, Toni Rudiger and Willian ahead of our Premier League opener against Manchester United.
Lampard gave Kante his first minutes of pre-season against Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend in what was our final pre-season friendly of the summer. The Frenchman has been building up to full fitness since suffering an injury ahead of the Europa League final.
Meanwhile Rudiger has not featured since limping off against Man United in late April, while Willian continues to build up to the required fitness levels having won the Copa America with Brazil last month.
'We have Kante fit, but if he's match fit is a question I will have to decide right up until the end,' Lampard said.
'Everyone else is pretty much fit. We have the ones we know are outstanding. Willian is working to be fit and it’s probably come slightly too soon for him. Possibly Rudiger the same, but he has been training with us for a few days now. That’s for me to gauge over the next 24, 48 hours until Sunday.
'I know the squad we have got, I pretty much know where we are going. We have trained well, so we’re there.'
Lampard was asked if he had prepared his final message to his players in the dressing room on Sunday
'No! I haven’t yet. But there is a lot to prepare. We are watching Manchester United. We will have meetings. I will speak to the players as I feel it.
'I am not one for absolute schedule or to say the same every game. Part of the job is to feel the atmosphere and say the things you feel need to be said.
'By that moment all the tactical work is done, and the message will be something around passion and giving everything, fighting for the team collectively. Those are the basics. You can’t go to Old Trafford and expect a result if you don’t do the basics. The players will be reminded of that.'
