Chelsea will play either Grimsby Town or Macclesfield Town in the third round of this season's Carabao Cup.
The second round game between our potential opponents, who are both in League Two, was abandoned due to heavy rain and will be replayed on 10 September.
Our tie against the eventual opponents will take place in the week commencing 23 September with the exact date to be announced in due course.
In this stage of the competition last season we competed in an all-Premier League clash at Anfield, beating Liverpool 2-1 with the winner scored by Eden Hazard following an opener by Emerson Palmieri. The next round brought our current boss Frank Lampard back to the Bridge with the side he then managed, Derby County. Mason Mount was on loan with the Rams and he played in what ran out as a 3-2 Chelsea win. Fikayo Tomori had the misfortune of scoring an own-goal.The Blues went on to reach the final of the competition, only falling at the penalty shoot-out stage against Manchester City.Overall Chelsea have lifted the League Cup five times, the most recent occasion in 2015 when Tottenham were beaten at Wembley.
