Christian Pulisic truly announced himself in English football with a sublime hat-trick, the first of his professional career, in our 4-2 victory at Burnley yesterday.
Pulisic became the youngest Chelsea player to score a Premier League hat-trick (narrowly pipping Tammy Abraham’s efforts at Wolves last month), and not only that, one with the right, one with the left and one with the head made it a perfect treble.
‘It’s incredible, honestly I can’t believe it,’ Pulisic beamed.
‘The goals were amazing. It’s tough to say which was my favourite. The header was cool but I think I’d have to go with the first one, the left foot, I don’t know why.
‘It’s actually my first professional hat-trick so I nearly forgot the match ball, luckily my team-mates helped me out!
‘These guys are so fun to play with. We have so much energy. Some of the more experienced guys also bring a really nice touch to the team. Right now we’re just enjoying every moment of it.
‘It was a really good team performance. I just wish in the end we could have kept a clean sheet!’
Even if two late Burnley goals made the final scoreline closer than it had looked like being, Pulisic couldn’t have asked for much more on his first league start since the end of August. This hat-trick follows decisive contributions off the bench in the wins over Southampton, Newcastle and Ajax.
‘I have to prove myself and continue to work,’ stressed the 21-year-old. ‘I just want to be on the field, help the team and make an impact.
‘I didn’t think it would be super easy. But I have come on a few times in the past few weeks, helped the team, and I was so excited to start. It was a special day.
‘I definitely have an attacking creative style. I want to drive with the ball, dribble and make things happen. I’m happy to have helped the team. Now we just want to keep going. Obviously we’re on a roll, but we’re just taking it game by game.’
