Chelsea FC Women are adding to the squad for this season by signing Jamie-Lee Napier from Hibernian Ladies.
The 19-year-old Scotland international has signed until 2021 and will officially join up with the Blues after the Christmas break ahead of the second half of the Barclays Women’s Super League campaign.
A young, versatile player who is capable of playing at full-back or as a winger, on the right or the left, Napier will bolster Emma Hayes’ side with her fast pace and direct playing style.
It has been an impressive year for Napier and her performances for Hibernian led to her being named as the Scottish Women’s Premier League 1 Player of the Year. She played in 33 games and she found the target 22 times.
Having represented her country at Under-17s and Under-19s level, Napier earned her first senior call-up in August in Scotland’s UEFA Women’s Euro 2021 qualifier against Cyprus.
Upon signing for Chelsea Women, Napier said:
‘It feels amazing to be a Chelsea player and I’m delighted to have signed my first professional contract.
‘From a young girl it’s been a dream and an aspiration of mine so I’m delighted that I’ve finally done it with such a successful club like Chelsea.’
Napier becomes the third new addition to Hayes’ squad this season, with Guro Reiten joining in the summer and Australian forward Sam Kerr putting pen to paper last month.Hayes is excited to welcome the talented wide player as she continues to strengthen her squad in preparation for the second half of the season.‘I’m delighted to have signed Jamie,’ Hayes said. ‘She is a really bright prospect coming from Scotland. Her personality, her hard-working spirit and quality will add something to our squad.
‘It’s important that we keep developing younger players and she is one we have identified for the future.’
The first opportunity to see our new signing in action could come in our first game back of the New Year against Reading Women on 5 January.
Tickets for this game are priced at £9 for adults, £1 for juniors and seniors and can be purchased online.
