With the 2019/20 campaign currently on pause, EA Sports have named their Premier League FIFA 20 Team of the Season So Far and it includes Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic for the first time.
Our Croatian star was selected among a 21-man squad, which features the best-performing players from the current season prior to the league being postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The Blues have played 29 of our 38 league games so far, just over 75 per cent.
The Team of the Season reveal is one of the most eagerly anticipated moments of the season for FIFA players, with a team named for each major league delivering huge stats boosts and end-game content for players to build their teams around.
Kovacic has 25 Premier League appearances this season under Frank Lampard and netted his first goal in England in our 3-1 defeat at Everton back in December.
He contributes significantly to the team when it comes to bringing the ball forward from midfield into dangerous attacking areas, breaking the lines to create danger for the opposition.
Of all players to have attempted 50 or more dribbles in the Premier League this season, the 25-year-old ranks first in terms of success rate according to OPTA statistics, with 87 dribbles attempted and a success rate of 79.3 per cent.
In terms of ball carries per 90 minutes, which OPTA defines as every instance of a player moving at least five metres with the ball, Kovacic is also top among Premier League midfielders with 28.9 carries per 90 minutes.
