Jose Mourinho, back at Stamford Bridge for a second spell in charge, had led us to the title and we celebrated in style against Sunderland in our final game of the campaign by brushing the Black Cats aside 3-1 before being handed the Premier League trophy to parade in front of our jubilant fans.

However, there was also a tinge of sadness with the news that this was to be the last time we would see King Didier in a Chelsea shirt, after many years of trophy-laden success with the Blues.

The Ivorian, who made 381 appearances and scored 164 goals over his two spells at the club, said after the game that he would not move to another club in England because of his love for the Blues.

The striker, who skippered the side at the request of John Terry, was also afforded a heroes’ reception from his team-mates and supporters alike during that game against Sunderland, most notably when he was chaired off the pitch after being substituted. It was a moment like no other and one the all-time Chelsea great will surely never forget.

‘It was a strange feeling,’ said Drogba at the time. ‘It showed the spirit of this team, the good atmosphere. We are always having fun.

‘I wanted to prove to myself that I could come back to the very highest level if possible, play in the Champions League, score in the Champions League. Winning the league with Chelsea was what I really wanted to achieve when I came back and I think I played enough games to give a contribution to that.’

We didn’t know it at the time, but that win over Sunderland would also prove to be the last time Petr Cech was between the sticks for Chelsea in a Premier League fixture.

The goalkeeper would turn out against us on a number of occasions going forward, including in his final career appearance in the Europa League final last May, as he joined Arsenal later on in the summer of 2015.

After finalising his switch across London, Petr – who is of course now back at Chelsea in a technical role – penned an emotional letter to the Blues supporters who had taken him into their hearts over many years of successful service.

‘I thought this would never happen but it is time to say goodbye to Chelsea Football Club,' began Petr in his open letter to the fans back in 2015.

'The club I have loved playing every single minute for since joining in July 2004, the club in which I thought I’d hang my gloves and boots up with one day and finish my career. But life doesn’t always turn out the way you think it will.

‘Since 2004 it has been an incredible journey with so many highs and not many lows. We have managed to win every single English trophy as well as the Europa League and the biggest of all - Champions League.

‘Looking back at all the achievements, including our first ever league double in 2010, back-to-back titles in 2005 and 2006, and multiple Premier League and FA Cup wins, I couldn’t be prouder! As a team we made history together!

‘I did everything for you and you gave me your love back. I'll never forget it. It will stay with me forever.’
