Hakim Ziyech was at Stamford Bridge last night and he did not only spending his time there watching his new team-mates secure three precious points against Norwich City.
The new signing, whose transfer was agreed back in February before he officially became a Chelsea player at the start of this month, also gave his first interview to our cameras from his vantage point in the stands. Indeed that interview taking place was shown live during Sky Sports’ pre-match TV coverage but what could not be heard then were the Moroccan international’s answers, delivered in good English and conveying how excited he is that his career in London is underway. The full interview can be watched here now though, in the video above.Ziyech confirms it means a lot to be at Stamford Bridge as a Chelsea player.‘When you are a young guy you always want to play for a big club, in the Premier League of course,’ he says.‘When I was young, the players that played here, it was always a big club so I am very happy and it means a lot. I was playing in the youth in Heerenveen and here was playing Drogba, Lampard, Terry, all those big names. We were always for Chelsea, and if you look at now, if you can play here it means a lot to me.’
The 27-year-old goes on to talk about the part Frank Lampard played in his decision to join Chelsea and what he hopes to bring to the side next season. He also talks about whether he will be suited to the Premier League. As well as talking about the physical side, Ziyech explains: ‘Football is just playing with your head and being smart and creating spaces, and it is always in the small things.’Of course he was also at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season when he scored for Ajax in that famous 4-4 draw in the Champions League group stage.
‘It was a crazy game. If you were a neutral supporter it was a fantastic game. For us it was a little bit less because we were 4-1 up, but it was a crazy game. I think the neutral fans, that is why they like football, because of moments and games like this.’Watch the video at the top for Ziyech’s message to all Chelsea fans.
