Bright joins Bethany England, Erin Cuthbert and Guro Reiten who have also recently signed new deals.

The England international has become a key figure in the Blues’ backline since joining in 2014 and Bright is delighted to extend her stay with the club.

‘It’s a massive honour for a big club like Chelsea to want you to sign again, for the length that I have,' she said.

‘To stay at a club that I absolutely love to bits, the players, the staff, representing the badge, it’s everything that I’ve ever dreamt of and I couldn’t imagine myself being anywhere else,’ she said.

Upon Bright extending her stay, general manager Paul Green said: ‘We’re delighted to extend Millie’s contract, she leads by example both on and off the pitch and has played a big part in the team’s success over the years.

‘Millie has continued to develop and improve each season and is a very important player for us.

‘We feel that she is now coming in to her peak as a player and look forward to seeing how she continues to develop her game and leadership in the upcoming years.’

The defender is currently one of the longest-serving players at the club and has played a major role in our Double-winning campaigns in 2015, 2018 and 2020, but Bright believes the current squad is the best she has ever been a part of.

‘I think each year that’s what we should always strive for - both the staff and us as players want the best possible squad.

‘You’ve got to keep developing. The game, year in year out gets a lot harder. This year, you’ve seen with the signings that certain clubs have made, it’s going to be hard.

‘It’s definitely going to be a tricky one but I think we’ve improved yet again.

‘We’ve got one of the best squads in the league, and the quality from the front to the back is unbelievable. Even in training, you are tested every day.

‘Physically and mentally you’ve got to be switched on every day so each day we are growing as a team, individually we are developing and with still some more room to grow.'

One trophy that has eluded Bright is the Champions League and our vice-captain believes the current squad is ready to reach the next level and achieve European success.

‘It’s been a long wait and it was definitely hard to sit at home and watch other teams playing in the Champions League,’ she said.

‘It felt like we were missing out and it should be a competition that we should be in with the quality that we’ve got in the squad.

‘We never want to be in that position where we miss out on Champions League again so I’m excited for it finally to come around. We want to definitely go on and win the Champions League.

‘It’s something that Emma is passionate about and us as players, we are at that level now where we want to go and push on and win it.’
