There is a place in a European semi-final for one loanee in Italy...
Victor Moses’s season on loan at Inter will continue into the final week of 2019/20 after the Italians booked their place in the Europa League semi-finals.
Antonio Conte’s side were victors over Bayer Leverkusen on Monday night after an entertaining contest in which three goals were scored and two Inter penalties were overturned by VAR. Inter eventually ran out 2-1 winners and will face Shakhtar or Basel in the last four.
Moses started on the bench for the fourth game in a row but had a lively impact after being introduced for the final half-hour, almost finishing off the contest with a third Inter goal but being denied by a smart piece of goalkeeping.
Former Blue Romelu Lukaku had earlier struck for the Nerazzurri to make it 2-0 following Nicolo Barella’s opener before Kai Havertz reduced the deficit for the Germans. Despite an eventful second period in which a second Inter penalty was awarded but then taken away, there were no further goals in Dusseldorf.
Conte’s men, runners-up in Serie A this term, will take on the winners of the Shakhtar-Basel quarter-final that takes place tonight (Tuesday). The semi-final will be played on Monday 17 August.
