Jamal Blackman has joined Rotherham United on loan for the 2020/21 campaign.
The goalkeeper heads back to Yorkshire having spent time there with Sheffield United and Leeds in recent seasons. A broken leg sustained in November 2018 has limited his involvement since, though he did feature 10 times for League One Bristol Rovers in the second half of last campaign.
A tall and commanding figure between the posts, Blackman has been on the books at Chelsea since the age of 12, winning both the FA Youth Cup and Under-21 Premier League during his time in the Academy.
His senior career has been varied, with loan spells in the Netherlands and Sweden as well as throughout the English football pyramid. The Croydon-born player’s most recent experience in the Championship was with Sheffield United in 2017/18, where he made 33 appearances for Chris Wilder’s side.
After two League Cup appearances for Leeds the following season, Blackman fractured his tibia and he did not feature competitively again until January 2020, when he finished the season in League One with Bristol Rovers.
Rotherham were promoted as League One runners-up last term after the final standings were decided using the points-per-game model. The Millers were last in the second tier in 2018/19.
