Marc Guehi has agreed to rejoin Swansea City on loan for the upcoming 2020/21 season.
The centre-back teamed up with the Swans in January of last season for the first loan stint of his career, making 14 appearances at the Liberty Stadium and impressing Swans manager Steve Cooper enough to secure his services for this campaign.
Swansea reached the Championship play-offs last season, where they were narrowly defeated by Brentford at the semi-final stage, with Guehi playing in both legs.
Guehi has been at Chelsea since the age of eight and progressed through the ranks with distinction. He featured regularly for the Under-18s as we won seven trophies in two seasons between 2016 and 2018, with his fine displays being rewarded with a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2022.
The defender, 20, made his senior Blues debut in our big Carabao Cup win over Grimsby Town last season, playing alongside Kurt Zouma at centre-back in the 7-1 win, before a further cup outing in the next round against Manchester United.
He has represented England Under-21s and was named in their most recent squad earlier today, alongside fellow Chelsea team-mates Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Conor Gallagher, who also spent time on loan at Swansea last season.
The defender’s return to South Wales sees him reunite with Steve Cooper once again, having previously worked under the current Swans boss and former England Under-17 manager. Guehi was Cooper’s captain at the Under-17 Euros in 2017 where the Young Lions went agonisingly close to winning the title, before featuring in every game at the Under-17 World Cup later in the same year, scoring in the 5-2 final victory against Spain.
Swansea start their campaign with a League Cup tie against Newport County on September 5, before heading to Preston a week later for their opening Championship fixture of the season.
