It was Ben Chilwell who walked away with the man of the match award on his Premier League debut for Chelsea, netting our opener after good work from Cesar Azpilicueta, and then sending over an inviting cross that Kurt Zouma superbly headed past Vicente Guaita.

When called upon at the other end, our back four stood firm. Edouard Mendy did not have a save to make, with Zouma and Thiago Silva particularly dominant in the heart of the defence. A first shutout of the league campaign was rarely in doubt.

‘I’m really pleased with the clean sheet for everyone involved, not just the goalkeeper and the back four,’ acknowledged Lampard.

‘We didn’t give a team who are very dangerous away from home many chances to score, which is great for the focus of the team.

‘Thiago and Kurt looked very good, very composed. Thiago has that great experience and we saw that. He is obviously still in his early days in terms of fitness, but let’s see how that partnership works.

‘I want to find some sort of stability with the back four, of course I do. Those two showed how well they can do it, but that needs to be sustained.’
