Malang Sarr, the young French defender who joined Chelsea in August, will spend the rest of the 2020/21 season on loan at Porto.
At the time of the announcement of Sarr’s signing, it was confirmed he would be going on loan in order to have the chance to gain valuable game time and add to his experience so he will be ready to join our squad.Porto are currently third in the Portuguese Primeira Liga table with three games of the season played and are also in the Champions League, where they have been drawn in the same group as Manchester City, Olympiacos and Marseille. They are managed by former Portugal international Sergio Conceicao who has also worked in France.Twenty-one-year-old Sarr was previously at Ligue 1 side Nice where his contract expired. He signed a five-year deal with Chelsea.
He had played for his local side Nice since he was five years old and became a regular in their first team at the age of 17.Primarily a centre-back but also able to play on the left of a back three or at left-back (he is left-footed and six foot tall), Sarr has represented France from Under-16 to Under-21 levels and captained their Under-18s. He played at the 2019 Under-21 Euros.
