Black History Month has been marked in the UK for more than 30 years and takes place this month, celebrating the achievements and contributions of the black community over the years.

With over 100 Chelsea FC men and women’s first-team players of black origin making a first team appearance for the club, our Education department has created an opportunity for more than 80 schools to help the club celebrate these players with the aim to promote positive role models and inspire young people.

Delivery of the programme began in schools this week and as part of the activity, all participating schools will be allocated a couple of players and will create a player profile for each.

The profile will include facts, a short matchday report and a photograph of the best moment from the allocated player’s life with all winning entries to be collated to create a book called ‘Who We Are’.

Sam Gaskin-Kemp, head of education at the Chelsea Foundation, said: ‘We have been working hard to review all of our Equality & Diversity education programmes, and have worked with colleagues from across the Foundation to re-shape and re-design our content and the range of opportunities for participants to get involved in.

‘This term we have been focusing on the theme of "Identity" and we are really excited to be rolling out our new "Who We Are" project.

‘We are really looking forward to seeing what the schools produce.’
