Eriksson has become an integral part of Emma Hayes’ side since joining in 2017 and was made captain ahead of our 2019/20 campaign.

The Sweden international marked her first season as Chelsea skipper by leading her side to a domestic double, winning the Continental Tyres League Cup before being crowned Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions.

Eriksson has now put pen to paper on a new deal to keep her at the club for at least another two-and-a-half years and the defender is pleased.

‘It means everything to me to be at this club, there is nowhere else in the world I would rather be,’ Eriksson said.

‘We have everything here. We have an amazing team, we have an amazing squad and we have a good group of people around the team to support us.

‘It’s the ideal place to be and I couldn’t see myself being anywhere else.’

General manager Paul Green added: 'We’re delighted to extend Magda’s contract, she is our captain and a very important player for us.

‘Magda leads by example both on and off the pitch and has formed a terrific partnership with Millie Bright over the last few years. We look forward to many more successful years with Magda at the club.’

Eriksson arrived at Kingsmeadow in 2017, following a four-year spell at Linkopings in her home country and the 27-year-old believes since signing for Chelsea she has developed both on and off the pitch.

She said: ‘The last three years have been the absolute biggest of my career.

‘In everything I’ve achieved, and also how I have developed and especially for me, how I’ve developed as a person.

‘I think moving to a different country, a new club, a new league, it makes you grow as a person.

‘It makes you believe in yourself, especially if you succeed and if you do well. It was a big risk for me to take but you always feel pleased whenever you take a risk and you succeed.

‘I’m really happy, the way I’ve developed as a player as well and as a leader, getting the armband last year has developed me as a person and a footballer a lot.’

Eriksson helped the Blues reach the semi-finals of the Champions League back in 2018, with Chelsea narrowly missing out on a place in the final having been defeated by Lyon.

The Blues did not feature in the Champions League last season but Eriksson and her team-mates will be back among Europe’s elite when the competition begins next month.

‘I’m so excited to start playing the Champions League, we missed it last year,' she said. 'That is the ultimate tournament and the tournament you always want to be in.

‘I’m really excited to enter the tournament again and see how far we can go this year.’
