Frank Lampard has confirmed that Chelsea are looking in ‘good shape’ ahead of Sunday’s clash with Tottenham, with Christian Pulisic in contention to return from injury.
The American has been sidelined in recent weeks with a hamstring problem but Lampard confirmed at his pre-match press conference that the forward could feature against our London rivals at Stamford Bridge, after working on his fitness. Kai Havertz could also start, after making his return against Rennes in midweek.
‘Team news-wise, we are as we were really,’ said Lampard at his pre-match press conference. ‘Christian Pulisic is back in contention for the game after working on his fitness.
‘Whether Christian is ready to start is another question, as it is hard to gauge match fitness when you’ve only been training but he is ready and he is in contention.
‘Kai Havertz played some minutes against Rennes the other day following his time out and it’s more just checking on his potential for match fitness, but overall we are in pretty good shape.’
Thiago Silva returned to the Chelsea defence as we secured our qualification to the knockout stage of the Champions League by defeating Rennes in midweek and Lampard was asked about the future of the Brazilian, following media reports speculating that Thiago is set to extend his contract.
Lampard confirmed that there is an option to extend the defender’s deal by a further year, should it suit both parties.
‘I’ve seen the reports and yes, there’s an option in Thiago’s contract that we can look at as the season goes on,’ Frank added.
‘He has an option to extend his deal and with the way he’s playing, I’m very happy with him and it’s something we will look at it. I was surprised, however, with the way the reports came out. But yes, he does have an option to extend his contract.’
