Scholes likens Pulisic to Hazard

Paul Scholes was left very impressed by Christian Pulisic after our fixture against Wolves in the week.

The American winger returned to the starting line-up after recovering from a hamstring injury and put in an impressive display.

‘He’s a good player, isn’t he?’ Scholes told Amazon Prime which was also repeated in the Metro.

‘The number of times they got the ball into him. Chilwell as well has been a threat they’ve got a link down that side with Mason Mount. But this lad, Pulisic, he looks the closest thing to Eden Hazard.’

Pulisic ended his debut season at the Blues with 11 goals and 10 assists in all competitions and will look to continue contributing to Frank Lampard’s side with the summer signings. Former Manchester United midfielder Scholes was delighted with his skillset.

‘He’s got a little turn of pace, his centre of gravity is low, he can weave past people and he’s creative.’

Cundy believes Havertz needs time

Jason Cundy has urged fans to be patient with Kai Havertz stating that the German midfielder is still settling into English football.

The Talksport host believes there is still a lot to come from the German and it is just a matter of time until he shows his quality and what he can bring to this Chelsea side.

‘He is 21 years of age, he’s come from Germany and he hasn’t settled yet,’ Cundy said, speaking to fellow former Chelsea player Mario Melchiot.

‘When you pay for a player that age, you’re mostly paying for potential, it’s a lot of money and we will see – you can’t judge him after 12 games.'

Havertz has four goals and four assists in all competitions this season and the return of creative players like Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech will help the 21-year-old get more chances. Cundy believes it’s a long-term process.

‘What we heard, and you know from a lot of people who know about German football, he is a great talent.

‘I don’t want to be too hard on the kid, he’s just got here and he’s young and hasn’t adapted yet.

‘So, let’s just wait and see – we can judge in a year or two’s time.’

Desailly compares Giroud’s influence

Marcel Desailly believes Olivier Giroud has two different roles for his national team and club.

The French striker has returned to Frank Lampard’s starting XI and has shown he is still a major threat in front of goal and Desailly has praised our head coach for how he has handled the situation.

‘I believe Lampard has helped Giroud shine often by getting a lot of out him,’ the former Blue told Goal.

‘It’s just down to Lampard to use him at the right time, get runners around him to allow him to shine. He is 34 years old now so don’t ask him to be the main man but make sure he is important when needed.

‘With his age and his status as a world champion, then I think it is about how and when you use him.’

Part of Giroud’s performances is to get himself in the squad for the next European Championship. He lies just seven goals shy of Thierry Henry’s goalscoring record for France. National team head coach Didier Deschamps has often led the line with the striker.

‘He is indispensable for the national team,’ said Desailly who also won the World Cup with Deschamps as his team-mate in 1998.

‘Giroud is the perfect team-mate and player for the France national team. He is the first choice.’
