Chelsea Women return to league action against Reading this afternoon and Sam Kerr says the Blues are raring to go following the Christmas break.
Chelsea go into today’s fixture looking to continue the fine form showed throughout the first half of the campaign, with the Blues currently unbeaten in all competitions.
Kerr is expecting a tough encounter against the Royals at the Madjeski Stadium but insists the Blues are more than ready to begin 2021 with a victory.
‘Reading are a tough team and we aren’t going to take them lightly,’ she said.
‘Results around the league this year have shown no team can be underestimated. They are a hardworking and tough team so we will need to be at our best. We put out our best team every week and we go to win so we won’t be underestimating them but we will be ready.’
Today's game kicks off at 2pm and is on the BBC Red Button.
This week marked a year since Kerr made her Chelsea debut, a 3-1 victory over today’s opponents.
Kerr, who will be hoping for a similar outcome this afternoon, has been in scintillating form this season, netting eight goals in 13 appearances and the Australian looked back on what has been a hugely positive first year at the club.
‘It’s been really good and really enjoyable. It’s been everything I hoped for and a little bit more.
‘Obviously with everything going on around the world it’s been a little bit different but I’ve really enjoyed it. I think I’ve learnt a lot and we’ve won a lot so I’m happy.’
A new year brings new motivations and new ambitions, but for Kerr the goal remains the same and that is to help the team achieve trophy success.
‘For us, in 2021, we have a lot of trophies that we could potentially win so hopefully as a team we can get our hands on as many of those,’ she added.
‘Personally, I hope to keep on scoring and helping the team get to where we need to be to win those trophies.’
