The two wingers linked up frequently throughout that 4-0 FA Cup victory, switching play across the pitch, with one such combination resulting in our third goal as Hudson-Odoi latched on Ziyech’s chipped pass over the Morecambe back line before beating the goalkeeper.

‘Hakim and I have that little partnership where we know one another’s capabilities and what one can do,’ explained Hudson-Odoi. ‘As soon as he got the ball I made the run because I knew he can find those passes. It was a great ball by him to find me in behind.’

That win booked our place in the fourth round of the FA Cup and, in addition to being pleased to return to winning ways after a difficult period in the Premier League, the 20-year-old is hoping for another good run in the competition after reaching last season’s final.

‘I’m happy with the result. I think that all the boys played well. We never underestimate any game that we play in, so we came into the game with the right attitude knowing that we had to get the job done and we did very well.

‘I’m happy with myself, I’m happy with the team, everybody is excited. We want to be and do better every game so we are going to keep trying in training and keep working hard.

‘It’s a big competition and we want to go as far as possible. We try our best in every game we play and we are delighted to go through to the next round.’

However, the winger says Sunday’s win was just the start of Chelsea’s quest to return to top form, with plenty more improvement still to be made in our upcoming fixtures, beginning on Saturday when we visit west London neighbours Fulham in the Premier League.

‘We keep improving and keep working hard,’ said Hudson-Odoi. ‘This game was a good step for us, we want to go back into the right way of winning games, so hopefully this is a start of good things and we keep going and keep pushing.

‘We want to keep pushing on from this game and hopefully keep winning games and get a good run. As I said, this game was a good step. I feel like we needed this game to show the right mentality and attitude to get the job done.

‘We kept a clean sheet and scored four goals which is a good thing for us. We want to keep improving at both ends of the pitch. We are all going into the next game against Fulham full of confidence trying to win that game as well.’

That ongoing improvement doesn’t just apply to the team, either, with Hudson-Odoi determined to continue his own development and learn from Frank Lampard to reach his own potential.

‘Nobody is a perfect player. There are always flaws and you want to keep improving every day. I want to keep working hard and learning every day. I want to keep educating myself whether it’s at home watching clips or just learning under the manager. He knows what to do and he knows what is right for me and how to play so I want to keep learning under him and working hard.

‘Every time I get on the pitch or in training, I want to give my best every time. I want to give 110 per cent in the match. I want to always make sure that I’m ready. The best way you train is the best way you play in a game.’
