Hayes has expressed how every member of the squad is valuable to the team’s success.‘The team has been so well prepared since Christmas for the accumulation of games and the training level has been the best it’s been all season,’ said the Chelsea manager.‘Reducing the squad to a smaller number has helped with the spirit and everybody knows they are going to get opportunities in so many games and I think that helps.‘The important thing is that every player understands that if the team is to go to a higher level then everybody has to contribute every day in training.‘You can’t have any passengers in the training environment and that is the difference this side of Christmas.‘Every single player is contributing every single moment so the training intensity, the training quality goes up and in turn game performance will go up.’

The Blues have found the back of the net 51 times so far this season, with 30 of them coming in the Women’s Super League and Hayes has insisted there is more to come from her side.‘That is something we have been working towards and the chemistry of our attacking players takes time.‘We have had a back-line who have consistently played together for a long time so naturally that rhythm has been easier than it is say in the forward areas.‘But the players are building relationships daily in training and they are starting to play to their best strengths and find ways.‘The key things is making sure that the team adheres to the principles that we look to play to but we have to be flexible in our approach and do what’s necessary. I can really see something different in the team this side of Christmas.’

Our opponents Villa recently appointed Marcus Bignot as interim manager in the hope that he can improve their recent fortunes. Hayes highlighted her expectations from the league newcomers, who currently sit second from bottom. ‘I know Marcus well so I expect a team that will be organised. They will be set up very well defensively so this Villa team will be tougher to break down.‘Marcus has made a name for himself not just on the way his teams defend but on their restart so I expect Villa on the whole to be a much tougher unit to break down.’
