Having already met Barnsley in the Carabao Cup earlier in this campaign, Chelsea’s FA Cup visit to Oakwell this week marks the 12th time we have faced a team in both domestic cup competitions in the same season.

Our emphatic 6-0 win over the Tykes at Stamford Bridge last September means we could complete a seasonal cup double against the Championship side, a feat we have managed four times previously. No team has managed to do the double against the Blues as we have split wins with our opponents in the other seven matches.

The first of those double-dip cup ties came over half a century ago when we clashed with Leeds United no fewer than six times in the 1969/70 season. The Yorkshire side beat us in both league games as they finished runners-up in Division One, two points ahead of the third-placed Blues, but we had our revenge in our cup meetings.

In the third round of the League Cup, goals by Charlie Cooke and Alan Birchenall secured a 2-0 win in the replay at the Bridge after a 1-1 draw in the first game at Elland Road.

We met again with Don Revie’s side in the FA Cup final and after a 2-2 draw at Wembley, the Blues lifted the famous old trophy for the first time after David Webb’s extra-time header secured a famous 2-1 win in the replay at Old Trafford.

Two seasons later, we eliminated Bolton Wanderers in both competitions, winning 6-0 in a League Cup fourth round replay at Burnden Park, and 3-0 at the Bridge in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

We had mixed fortunes against Liverpool in 1977/78 as we lost 2-0 at Anfield in the League Cup before stunning the reigning champions of England and Europe with a 4-2 victory at the Bridge in the FA Cup.

Honours were also shared in our next few instances of double cup ties as we won in the League Cup but lost in the FA Cup to Millwall in 1984/85, Oxford United in 1990/91 and Newcastle United in 2004/05.

We also lost in a League Cup semi-final to Tottenham Hotspur in 2001/02, a result which ended our 26-match unbeaten run against them, but exacted revenge in brilliant fashion with an empathic 4-0 victory at White Hart Lane in the FA Cup quarter-finals which had the visiting fans singing, ‘Normal service is resumed’.

Blackburn Rovers were beaten twice when we lifted both cups in 2006/07. Goals by Joe Cole and Salomon Kalou secured a 2-0 win for the Blues in the third round of the League Cup, while Michael Ballack’s extra-time strike proved decisive as we edged the Lancashire side 2-1 in the FA Cup semi-finals.

In 2011/12, Liverpool beat us 2-0 in the League Cup quarter-finals on their way to winning the competition but we emerged victorious in the FA Cup as goals by Ramires and Didier Drogba and a wonder save by Petr Cech helped us to down the Reds 2-1 in the final.

Our two most recent double cup meetings were against Manchester United. The Blues sent the Red Devils crashing out of both competitions in 2012/13 while the results were split last season as they edged us 2-1 in the Carabao Cup and we cruised to a 3-1 victory in the FA Cup semi-finals.
