Telford re-joined Chelsea in May 2017 having previously played for the Blues between 2011 and 2013. She has made 75 appearances for Chelsea, keeping 36 clean sheets.The 33-year-old continues to play her part in the team's success and the goalkeeper says she is delighted to sign a one-year deal with the club.She said: ‘I’m extremely happy. I think it’s important at my age to know that I’ve still got something to give to a club like Chelsea but also for the club to feel like they still value me.‘This club has been amazing for me personally and to be around such a quality team and group of girls is amazing.‘It’s an honour to come to work every day and long may it continue for the next year or so.’

As well as maintaining her spot in the senior team, within the new deal Telford will also take up a part-time coaching role from next season to continue her development, offering support and training to our Under-16 and Under-18 goalkeepers.After a discussion with Blues boss Emma Hayes and general manager Paul Green, it was realised that a position coaching our youngsters was the perfect fit for both Telford and the club.Telford said: ‘For me, I’ve always loved helping develop players around me, not just goalkeepers but outfield players as well.‘Sometimes it can come quite natural and I think that’s what they’ve identified, and we sat down and decided that there is an opportunity to help the youngsters in our Under-16s and Under-18s.‘I’m really excited because the coaching set-up at Chelsea is amazing, not just at senior level with the experiences that we have with winning lots of trophies, but our youth set-up is fantastic as well.‘I’ll be helping those girls, keeping them at Chelsea and improving them as people and as players.‘I would like to help Chelsea produce goalkeepers that come through our own pathway and become senior goalkeepers for the club.’

General manager Paul Green added: ‘We’re delighted to have Carly not only sign a new contract but also begin her professional coaching journey here at Chelsea from next season.‘She still has a lot to give on the pitch as a player, but alongside that, Emma and our staff are really looking forward to helping her coaching develop.‘Carly has great experience in the women’s game and will now be able to share those experiences as she looks to develop our young goalkeepers at the club.’

While Telford has aims to create a successful pathway to the senior squad for our young and upcoming goalkeepers, the England international also has hopes for more success as a player.Telford has been a part of the Chelsea teams that have won two FA Barclay’s Women’s Super League titles, the Women’s FA Cup, the Continental League Cup, the Spring Series and the FA Women’s Community Shield, but she now wants to get her hands on a trophy that has eluded her during her playing career.When asked about her goals on the pitch, she said: ‘To win, that’s it, that’s the bottom line. I think for us, as players, as a team, as staff, it is to win as many things as possible.‘We’ve always had high standards at Chelsea and we’ve had our hands on a lot of silverware, but there is one that we are missing that we haven’t managed to get our hands on. We are trying to win the Champions League this year.’
