It was definitely a case of mixed feelings for Ben Chilwell after yesterday’s 0-0 draw at Leeds United.
The left-back was part of a defence that kept yet another clean sheet – the 10th in 12 games under Thomas Tuchel – but at the same time he felt the Blues should have bagged the goal that would have claimed all three points, and included himself among those who spurned chances.‘We are disappointed,’ Chilwell admitted. ‘Leeds are a tough team, we knew that coming into the game, but we created enough to win the match and with points so tight at the top, it was one of those sort of games we wanted to win.‘Coming into the game people would have predicted goals,’ the 24-year-old added.‘The way Leeds play is pretty free-flowing and they are a difficult team to play against. They switch positions a lot on the pitch and it was a tough game. It wasn’t the best pitch for both teams to play on but we created chances.‘Leeds had a few chances but I think if you look at the chances we had, they were probably the better.
‘I had a few chances and I had one in the second half when I should have scored. We need a bit more from each other in the final third and that is something we are trying to add. Defensively as a team we are solid and we are not conceding but going forward, we are going to want to score more goals to get us the wins.’Chelsea had opportunities but as Chilwell mentioned, so did Leeds and Edouard Mendy had to be at his very best to keep two of them out, when he got fingertips to a dipping shot and diverted it onto the crossbar, and later in the game when he shifted himself in a low position to keep out a Raphinha effort.‘We know that when it comes down to it we can rely on Edou,’ praised the goalie’s team-mate Chilwell.‘Those one or two opportunities in a game when he has to concentrate and make a vital save, we know he is going to do that for us.’
The race remains tight to finish in the Champions League qualification positions and time will tell whether the point gained in Yorkshire in Saturday afternoon proves to be a vital one.‘It is important if you can’t win a game then don’t lose it,’ stated Chilwell. ‘That unbeaten run gives us good momentum going forward, and we can hopefully keep keeping clean sheets and score a few more goals.’
