Callum Hudson-Odoi has left the England Under-21 camp in Slovenia and returned to Cobham for further assessment on a shoulder injury sustained in training last week.
The winger missed the young Lions' group game against Portugal on Sunday after picking up the injury in the build-up to the match. It was hoped he might feature in this evening's clash with Croatia but Under-21s' manager Aidy Boothroyd has revealed the player has now left the camp.
'Callum is definitely out,' he said ahead of today's match. 'He has gone back to his club.'
Hudson-Odoi was one of England's better performers as they opened the group campaign with a narrow defeat to Switzerland but then sat out a 2-0 reverse to Portugal that leaves Boothroyd's side on the brink of elimination. They need to beat Croatia and hope the Swiss lose to Portugal to have any chance of advancing to the quarter-finals.
On-loan defender Marc Guehi has started both games, while Conor Gallagher was involved as a substitute last time out. Hudson-Odoi's return to Chelsea follows N'Golo Kante's early withdrawal from the France squad last week with a small hamstring injury.
