Blues keeping eye on Dembele
Chelsea are reportedly monitoring Ousmane Dembele’s situation at Barcelona.
According to reports in Spain, the winger is yet to sort out his contract situation with the Catalan club and is aware of the sides that are interested in him.
Dembele made a slow start to life in Barcelona but has shone under Dutch legend Ronald Koeman this season. The Frenchman is playing a more important role for the La Liga side and has managed to stay clear of injuries.
If the Blues are interested in the 23-year-old, then Dembele has a lot of personal connections at Stamford Bridge.
He won the 2018 World Cup alongside Olivier Giroud and N’Golo Kante with France. He also scored the opener that led to Thomas Tuchel’s first trophy when he was at Borussia Dortmund and was also team-mates with Christian Pulisic, who won the penalty for the winner in that final.
Dembele has appeared 36 times for Barcelona this season, scoring 10 times and supplying four assists.
Cundy backs Mount as future captain
Jason Cundy believes Mason Mount has the potential to one day captain Chelsea and England.
Speaking on TalkSport, the former Blues defender heaped praised on the 22-year-old after his performance against Porto in the Champions League.
‘Mount’s awesome, he’s a brilliant young footballer,’ Cundy said on his show. ‘I think a lot of people don’t watch enough of him and may just look at his work ethic and think that’s all he’s got. ‘He’s got bags of ability.’
The England international scored his first Champions League goal against Porto on Wednesday, becoming the youngest Chelsea player to score in a knockout European game.
‘You can't deny what he has done,’ Cundy continued. ‘Going to Vitesse and winning Player of the Year, he went to Derby County, Lampard played him, Gareth Southgate plays him and now Thomas Tuchel plays him.
‘He is getting better. We haven’t seen the finished article. He’s the Chelsea captain in waiting and I think he could be the England captain one day as well.’
Capello praises Tuchel
Former England boss Fabio Capello has praised Thomas Tuchel for our victory against Porto on Wednesday night.
Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, the Italian saw the Blues manager nullify all the strengths the Portuguese side used to knock out Juventus.
‘Porto were beatable,’ he said. ‘This was a very different game to the Juventus one. Tuchel prepared well, the defence was excellent, not allowing Porto very much at all, despite the fact they tried to push forward.’
Capello was also impressed with how the German responded after our loss against West Bromwich Albion last weekend. The Blues will be travelling back to Seville next week with hopes of finishing off the tie, helped by our two away goals.
‘Mount’s goal was a gem,’ he added. ‘Tuchel also changed five players compared to the game he lost in the Premier League at the weekend.
‘That showed he is in control of the situation.’
