Melanie Leupolz netted an important away goal to level the tie after the hosts took an early lead through Sydney Lohmann.

A goal from Hanna Glas just before the hour mark condemned Chelsea to a 2-1 first leg defeat at the FC Bayern Campus but Hayes believes the Blues have it all to play for.

Speaking at full-time, she said: ‘This is a difficult place to come. Their change of shape caused us some problems and it took us a long time to adjust to that.

‘At 1-1 at half-time, I’m fairly happy we got the away goal. At full-time I’m still happy we have the away goal and that we are still very much in the tie.

‘We have to focus on the positives. It’s too easy in a game like this to reflect on the things that didn’t go so well, and I won’t do that until I’ve watched it back.

‘For now, we have the away goal, it’s half-time and now we’ve got to bring them to Kingsmeadow and pose a much different problem to them.’

Chelsea went into Sunday’s game off the back of a 2-2 midweek draw away at Manchester City but the Blues now have a week to prepare for the return leg and Hayes has pledged that her side will give the performance of their lives at Kingsmeadow on Sunday.

‘I know what we have to do and everyone in the dressing room will know what they have to do,’ Hayes added. ‘It’s important to get over the disappointment of the result and focus on the objective and the objective is qualifying for the final.

‘You get two legs for a reason, so we have to make the home leg count and we have to be better in defending situations.

‘Everyone has to respect that when you play the game we had to play against Manchester City on Wednesday, that took a lot emotionally out of the group and then we had to play our second biggest game of the season. That’s extremely difficult.

‘Bayern are excited by their result but trust me, I will make sure the team puts in the performance of their life next week.’
