Thomas Tuchel is not getting distracted by transfer talk at such a critical stage of the season but the Chelsea head coach has admitted he knows the areas we have to improve if we are to close the gap to the top next season.
The Blues boss has been impressed with the quality and character of a squad that have reached the FA Cup final and are one game away from the final of the Champions League.
He is adamant there is no need to rush into any rash decisions but believes a top group always has room to add the best players.
‘I have opinions about what we can add to the group to get better,’ he said. ‘This is my job and I will give my opinion because I am asked my opinion. I have my ideas of course and I have ideas of certain profiles.
‘It’s not about me wishing for Player A or B and if they don’t come then I will get angry. It was never like that in my whole career and it will not be like that because I totally understand there are issues to solve with the agents, the players and the interests of other clubs.
'It’s not only about me and my wishes but of course we talk about it.’
Tuchel hopes to continue such conversations as the summer window approaches but claims that right now the sole focus of his staff and players is on the difficult challenges ahead, starting with this evening’s Premier League clash against Fulham.
‘The players that we have are fantastic players with big personalities and right now is the moment where we get to know each other better and better,’ he continued. ‘We have big games coming and crucial times ahead of us so we will have a very clear picture of our group.
‘The stronger they perform, the harder it is to improve this squad from the outside, but there is always room and there are always ideas.
‘I have a strong feeling that we are not in a rush or a big need so we are very relaxed. Everybody is fully focused and it’s not the moment to get distracted with any of those subjects.’
The Blues have one point from our last two Premier League home matches, with two dropped last time at the Bridge against Brighton in a lethargic display. Having gained the initiative over West Ham and Liverpool in recent weeks in the fight for the top four, Tuchel has urged his players not to stop pushing in the final five league games of the season.
‘We were clearly not focused [against Brighton] so the main point in the preparation for this game will be about us, our focus and the energy and intensity we put into our game,’ he added. ‘This is the key.
‘In the last two home games, we were not happy with the results.. We fought so hard in the last game against West Ham to win the advantage back and be in the top four when this game starts so we have to prove ourselves now.
‘This is the obligation we have to ourselves and to our pride - to not give in and do everything to win this game.’
