That victory on Tuesday evening ensured that our fate is in our own hands, putting us in third place in the table, knowing that another three points away at Villa Park on Sunday will guarantee us a spot in next season’s Champions League, regardless of results elsewhere.

However, with both Leicester and Liverpool just one point behind us, that could make for a lot of pressure if the result is still in the balance as the final whistle approaches.

With that in mind, Tuchel revealed he will be concentrating fully on our own match and is not planning to have one eye on the scores at Anfield and the King Power Stadium until he feels it necessary to adjust his team’s approach.

‘For a long period of the game I want to be in a bubble,’ he said. ‘If it’s near the end and we have results that have an influence on the amount of risk we need to take, because we are not leading or are not comfortable leading, then we need to know. I prefer not to know, but if it’s necessary to adapt our risk-management during the game, I think this is quite normal.

‘First of all we approach the game like the game against Leicester, it’s in our hands and we can decide things with a win, so we prepare for this game to be ready to win it, but in a football match there can be a lot of twists and turns so we need to be ready for anything, on our pitches and the others.’

He has no concerns about his players’ ability to perform under that pressure, though, having seen how we have done so in previous big games this season, including that vital win over Leicester earlier this week, so is merely calling for more of the same intensity from the Blues.

‘It’s exactly what we need all the time but it’s not all the time the same possibility. We need to adapt to what the game demands and the situations. It was a crucial moment for us in the season to maintain the possibility to reach our targets and the team had a very good response to it.

‘We’ve had several games under pressure and in crucial moments and we always had very good results, so we trust ourselves to be able to perform again.’

However, he did concede that, after benefitting from the support of the Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge against Leicester following the return of supporters to stadiums, the same factor will work against us as Villa welcome their own fans back on Sunday.

‘It’s a completely different set-up – an away game with away fans against a strong Aston Villa side who play without any pressure. So it’s a very big challenge but we’re up for it.

‘The supporters will have the same affect for their side. It’s an advantage for them, it makes things absolutely more difficult, no doubt about it, but it’s so much nicer and such a different game to play with spectators.

‘We know that it increases the challenge, increases the adversity but we are here to step up. We have it in our hands and we want to do it until the very end.’

It isn’t lost on him that Liverpool and Leicester will also have their fans backing them in these crucial games as they play at home on Sunday too, but Tuchel has no complaints after the role our fantastic support played in victory over the Foxes.

‘In terms of having fans they clearly have an advantage, but in terms of points I think they would like to change with us. It was a strange situation to have no fans so everyone was very happy to have fans back for the last two matches and then it’s equal, you have one home and one away match. It makes things more difficult but it’s just an obstacle to overcome.’
