Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Edouard Mendy and N’Golo Kante are training with the rest of the players in Porto and hopes to have his whole squad available tomorrow.
Speaking to the media before we face Manchester City in the Champions League final, our head coach was asked about the condition of his players, with the fitness of Mendy and Kante in the spotlight.
Mendy went off injured at half-time in our last Premier League game of the season, against Aston Villa, after colliding with the post, while Kante missed that game completely having picked up a hamstring problem against Leicester City a few days earlier.
However, Tuchel has revealed he expects to have both available at the Estadio do Dragao.
‘The team news is the best news ever, we have a full squad,’ he said. ‘We have no injuries and I hope it stays like that until after we finish today’s training session.’
The German also discussed the prospect of the game being decided by a shoot-out, and revealed he has already decided who Chelsea's five penalty takers will be.
‘We have already identified the guys who should take the penalties for us if it goes to a shoot-out, but I don’t know yet who could be on the pitch at the end,' he added. 'Whoever takes the penalties, we will go into the shoot-out together as a team, whatever happens.
‘We always practise penalties when we face a match that could be decided by penalties. We can’t replicate the pressure and occasion of a shoot-out in a big final, but we can take care of the knowing the patterns and practising our habits.'
