It’s been quite a special few days for Billy Gilmour, who has followed up winning the Champions League with Chelsea by making his senior Scotland debut.
The 19-year-old came off the bench for Scotland tonight (Wednesday) with nine minutes remaining of a Euro 2020 warm-up game against the Netherlands in Portugal. It is his first senior appearance for his country having featured regularly at youth levels.
Tonight Jack Hendry put Scotland ahead but his effort was cancelled out by Memphis Depay. Scotland kept pushing, though, and took the lead through Hibernian’s Kevin Nisbet shortly after the hour.
Steve Clarke’s side looked good value for the win but Depay netted a free-kick two minutes from time, so it finished 2-2 in Faro.
Scotland were without seven players who were isolating after a positive Covid test in the camp, making the result and performance all the more impressive.
They are next in action against Luxembourg on Sunday, before their Euro 2020 campaign begins at Hampden Park with Czech Republic the visitors in Group D.
