Henry Lawrence has joined AFC Wimbledon on loan for the 2021/22 season.

A versatile player, Lawrence can operate in central midfield as well as defence, with right-back his regular position throughout much of last term. He made 19 appearances in total, scoring twice on the final day of the season in a 4-2 victory at Blackburn Rovers.

In 2019/20, the teenager was a reliable member of the squad as Andy Myers’s side won the Premier League 2 title without losing a game. He also played in every round of the FA Youth Cup as we reached the final, during which he started at centre-back in a three-man defence.

Lawrence finished that campaign among the substitutes when the men’s team travelled to Munich for a Champions League knockout tie against Bayern. He has also represented England up to the Under-20 age group, assisting a goal in a recent win over Wales.

The 19-year-old now heads across south-west London to join some familiar faces at Plough Lane. Academy coach James Simmonds is spending part of the season on secondment at Wimbledon, while young midfielder Luke McCormick recently made a permanent transfer to the club. The Dons get their League One season started away at Doncaster Rovers next month.
