Canada, Australia and Sweden are through to the Tokyo Olympic semi-finals.
Jessie Fleming converted her spot-kick in a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win against Brazil, while Magda Eriksson scored to help Sweden beat Japan 2-1.
Blues forward Sam Kerr netted twice to help Australia secure a 4-2 extra-time victory against Great Britain.
Canada will now face the USA after they beat Aniek Nouwen’s Netherlands on penalties and Australia will come up against Sweden in the semi-finals on Monday.
Canada 0 Brazil 0 (Canada win 4-3 on penalties)
Fleming’s Canada kicked-off the action on quarter-final day and having started the previous game on the bench, the Blues midfielder was back in the starting 11 for today’s clash with Brazil.
There was nothing to separate the sides during the opening 90 minutes and 30 minutes of extra-time which meant the game would be decided on penalties.
Blues midfielder Fleming converted her penalty to help Canada win the penalty shoot-out 4-3 and go through to the semi-finals where they will face USA.
Great Britain 3 Australia 4 (AET)
Kerr started for Australia but there were no places in Great Britain’s starting 11 for her Blues team-mates, with Millie Bright, Sophie Ingle, Fran Kirby and Carly Telford all named on the bench.
Australia took the lead through Alana Kennedy on 35 minutes, but Ellen White headed home a Lauren Hemp cross to level for Great Britain just before the hour mark.
Bright and Kirby entered the action shortly after the equaliser and minutes later Great Britain turned the game around with White grabbing her second of the game to give her side a 2-1 lead on 65 minutes.
With the game entering the latter stages it looked as though Great Britain were heading for victory, but Blues striker Kerr struck home from inside the box to take the game to extra-time.
Ingle replaced Walsh six minutes into extra-time and moments later Great Britain were awarded a penalty, but Caroline Weir’s spot-kick was saved.
Great Britain were made to rue that missed opportunity minutes later when Australia went 3-2 ahead through Mary Fowler.
Australia extended their lead minutes into the second period of extra-time, and it was Kerr again as she rose above Steph Houghton to head her side into a 4-2 lead.
White scored her third of the game to make it 4-3, but it proved to only be a consolation goal. Australia will now face Sweden in the last four of the competition on Monday.
Sweden 3 Japan 1
Eriksson was named in the starting 11 for Sweden, with Jonna Andersson among the substitutes.
Sweden took the lead after just seven minutes courtesy of our Blues skipper. Eriksson rose highest in the box and directed her header into the back of the net.
Sweden’s lead didn’t last long as Mina Tanaka equalised for Japan on 23 minutes.
Stina Blackstenius put Sweden ahead early in the second half and they sealed the win when they made it 3-1 with 20 minutes to go. Sweden will now face Blues striker Kerr and the Matildas in the final four.
Netherlands 2 USA 2 (USA win 4-2 on penalties)
Chelsea’s new addition, defender Nouwen, was named in the starting line-up and her side went ahead through Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema on 19 minutes.
Despite the early lead, USA scored twice in three minutes to go 2-1 up just after the half hour mark.
Miedema scored her second of the game to bring her side level early in the second half.
Neither side were able to find a winner in normal time or extra-time, so the game was to be decided on penalties and it was USA who secured a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win.
