Wright praises Chalobah

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has praised Trevoh Chalobah after his recent breakthrough in the first-team.

Speaking on his podcast, Wright compared watching Chalobah to a young Virgil van Dijk after his performances against Villarreal and Crystal Palace.

‘Watching him against Arsenal in pre-season I was thinking, “wow, maybe it’s just a pre-season friendly he looks good”,’ Wright said. ‘I watched him against Villarreal in the Super Cup and I thought, “my god he’s really good”.’

The 22-year-old has impressed Thomas Tuchel and after scoring on his Premier League debut last weekend, he is expected to be given more chances to be involved in the squad.

‘You know what he reminded me of, not the same player, not the same stature, but the same way Van Dijk played for Celtic,’ Wright added. ‘People said he’s taking liberties just because he’s good and not the same standard as others.

‘I watched Chalobah play for Ipswich a couple of times where he played in that vein where you think I’d like to see him against better quality.’

Pundit gives Arsenal vs Chelsea prediction

Former Tottenham midfielder Darren Anderton has backed the Blues to beat Arsenal in our Premier League fixture on Sunday.

Speaking in a report that was repeated in the Metro, the pundit gave his prediction for the upcoming London derby.

‘If Chelsea are at the races, then I think that Arsenal are in big trouble,’ he said. ‘If Chelsea get in front it will be a long afternoon for Arsenal.

‘I do expect Chelsea to perform as we know they can. I think they will win the game and they should do so fairly comfortably.’

Anderton also hailed the transfer of Romelu Lukaku, with the former midfielder labelling the move ‘the signing of the season.’

‘I’ve got to say Lukaku is the signing of the season,’ he added. ‘He’s such a strong addition to an already impressive Chelsea side.

‘He’s a great buy for Chelsea and what they are all about.’

Diego Costa signs for new club

Former Blues striker Diego Costa has signed for Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old spent the last eight months without a club after having his contract terminated at Atletico Madrid in December.

‘The Atletico board and the player have reached an agreement,’ the club statement read. ‘Galo will be his first club as a professional athlete in Brazil.’

Diego Costa will now try to help Atletico Mineiro challenge for the Copa Libertadores title in the ongoing 2021 campaign.

The Spanish striker moved to Stamford Bridge from Atletico Madrid in 2014. At Chelsea, he won the Premier League title twice in 2015 and 2017. He also has one League Cup to his name.
