The form
Chelsea Women have had a busy summer playing four pre-season fixtures and taking three wins from those games into the 2021/22 campaign. For our first action of the season, we headed to the Emirates Stadium to take on tomorrow's opponents with the welcome return of fans. Chelsea were edged out by a late Freya Jupp goal, after young Blue Reanna Blades looked to have secured a draw with a stunning solo strike.
Following a behind closed doors match against Leicester City, the Blues then had a short flight up to Glasgow to face Rangers at their training ground. Chelsea returned victorious following a 4-1 win with Pernille Harder, Bethany England and Emma Thompson among those finding the net.
Our final action of pre-season saw us defeat Aston Villa 1-0 at Kingsmeadow in front of Chelsea fans for the first time since December 2020, as we were able to welcome back Emma Hayes and the team including our Gold and Silver winning Olympians, Jessie Fleming, Magda Eriksson, Jonna Andersson and Zecira Musovic. The Blues ended on a high with a first-half goal from Bethany England sealing the win.
Chelsea Women vs Arsenal Women recent head-to-head record
Last season, Chelsea Women faced Arsenal on three separate occasions with two FA Barclay’s Women’s Super League matches and a Continental Cup group stage game thrown in. Our first Women’s Super League encounter came in the shape of a 3-0 home win for the Blues, with a brace from Harder and a goal from Fran Kirby earning us a comfortable three points. We then drew 1-1 in November at Meadow Park, with a little help from an Arsenal own goal, before defeating the Gunners 4-1 in the Continental Cup group stage.
Next up for the Blues
Chelsea Women’s next test after facing the Gunners will be a return to Kingsmeadow for our first home match of the season against Everton. Tickets can be purchased from our website here.
