Speaking ahead of Denmark’s trip to Moldova in World Cup Qualifying on Saturday, the Dane confirmed he is hopeful of being offered a new deal to stay at Stamford Bridge.

‘It’s hard to know how things will end up,' Christensen said. 'There is a lot of talk. I will not say too much, but I think it looks good.

‘I am happy to be at Chelsea.’

Christensen, who joined the club’s Academy as a 15-year-old in 2012, added that he is pleased with the ‘big role’ he currently has at Chelsea under head coach Thomas Tuchel.

The defender has been a regular starter under the Bavarian, starting in 23 of Tuchel’s 41 games as Blues boss, and has played a key part in our run of 24 clean sheets in 41 competitive games under the German’s stewardship.

Tuchel himself has been full of praise of the defender in recent weeks.

‘Andreas has been very strong since day one, can play in all three positions in the defence and he plays with a lot of confidence,’ Thomas said, after our 3-0 away win at Spurs last month.

‘In the beginning, I had the feeling it was a bit of push to believe in himself, to impose himself and to trust in his quality because he has everything that we need in these positions. Again, a very strong performance. You can see it in the minutes.

‘We rely fully on him and he’s doing very well so far and it is everybody’s target that he continues like this.’

The 25-year-old is also a regular in Kasper Hjulmand’s Denmark side, having started all of the last 10 games and earning his 50th cap for the Red and Whites.
