The FA announced the launch of a Women’s Super League Hall of Fame as part of tenth anniversary celebrations earlier this year as they look to recognise individuals who have made a significant impact on the league.

Hayes has been in charge of Chelsea since 2012 and has accumulated more wins than any manager in WSL history, guiding the Blues to three titles since 2015, as well as the 2017 Spring Series.

It was announced today that Hayes had been inducted into the WSL Hall of Fame, along with Fara Williams, who started her career at Chelsea, and fellow pioneers of the women’s game Rachel Yankey and Kelly Smith.

Hayes sat down with Sky Sports after the announcement, where the Blues boss gave her initial reaction to being inducted into the first-ever Hall of Fame and spoke of her aims to leave a lasting legacy.

‘I’m honoured and surprised,’ Hayes told Sky Sports. ‘I think only when my careers done, will I really reflect on what we’ve achieved. While I’m in it, I’m always trying to find an edge every day.

‘My goal has always been about what I leave behind. That’s what I’ve worked for, that when I go, I’ve laid good foundations built to last a long time.

Hayes added: ‘A big motivator for me, that young men, young boys like my son grow up where they see women, in positions I’m in and that’s just the norm for them.’

The selected panel which is made up of ex-players, ex-officials, FA staff and women’s football journalists and chaired by Director of the women’s professional game, Kelly Simmons each submitted four names for consideration before coming together to vote on who will be the first four inductees of the first ever Barclays FA WSL Hall of Fame.
