Our development squad host Everton in Premier League 2 action on Saturday lunchtime, with tickets available online until 10pm tonight (Friday)...
The 1pm kick-off is a clash that our boys will be looking to win considering they are currently above a 13th-placed Everton side who have the second-highest number of losses this season with six.
Supporters can get down to Kingmeadow for the lunchtime action, with tickets priced at just £5 for adults and £3 for seniors (over-65s) and juniors (under-20s). Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Kingsmeadow ticket office on matchday.
Team news
Andy Myers and his coaching staff were unable to rest players in midweek due to our trip to Cheltenham Town in the Papa John's Trophy. That saw Lewis Baker, Xavier Mbuyamba, George McEachran, Josh Brooking and George Nunn all play 90 minutes, though all will be in contention to start against Everton.
Xavier Simons, who also played 90 minutes in the week, will be a good option returned to Myers as his one-game league ban has now been served. Bryan Fiabema and Dion Rankine were both on the bench against the Robins and will be hoping to feature after a run of good form.
Harvey Vale will be looking to make his way back into the side after his involvement in the men's first team squad this week. The forward was named as one of the substitutes in Wednesday’s penalty shoot-out win against Southampton in the Carabao Cup, though didn't make it onto the pitch.
Previous meetings
The last time we faced Everton at home, we came out on the right side of a 2-1 scoreline courtesy of a brace from Thierno Ballo, now on loan at Rapid Vienna. However, in our most recent game against the Toffees, we lost 2-0.
The Toffees have proven to be tough opponents in the past so despite their poor form so far this season, Myers will be reiterating the need for a professional display to ensure we get the three points.
The opposition
With two wins, one draw and six losses so far this term, Everton currently sit second from bottom, having scored 11 goals and conceded 21. Myers will be looking to capitalise on a defence that have conceded two goals or more in seven of their nine league games.
Our development squad will be looking to open up the gap between their Merseyside foes to five points.
Dion Rankine’s thoughts
A player who has looked positive in recent weeks is Dion Rankine and he gave his thoughts on the lunchtime kick-off this Saturday.
‘We are all pumped up to win this game,' he said. 'We had a bit of a tough start to the season but we're heading in the right direction. From a personal standpoint, I will be following the advice and instructions from the coaches to exploit the gaps and spaces that they [Everton] leave me.’
When asked about his transition from a winger to a wing-back, Rankine added: ‘I think it has been a natural change. I work a lot harder in this role for the team, focusing on fulfilling my defensive responsibilities and then also ensuring I support the team in attack.’
He added that ‘if there was one thing I would like to add to my game it would be more goals and assists.'

Under-17 cup round-up
In other news, our Under-17s were involved in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Reading in the Premier League Cup competition this week. Senior youth team players Derrick Abu and Tudor Mendel-Idowu were involved in order to gain match fitness.
Our young Blues, led in this competition by former Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole, found themselves 3-0 down but showed great resilience to level the scoreline. The goalscorers on the day were Abu, Mendel-Idowu and Tyrique George, who scored from a free-kick.
Cole was very impressed with his side’s efforts and believed we should have gone on to win the game.
‘We must learn not to lose the game within the first half an hour,' he told us. 'Mistakes at this level get punished so the sooner we cut those out the better. Despite this, we showed great resilience and maturity to fight back against a very good and physical Reading side.’
He added that ‘in the end, despite the tough start, we probably should have won the game.’
