Chelsea supporters have voted Reece James’s first strike at Newcastle United as our Goal of the Month for October.
James hit a brace on that visit to St James’ Park, crucially opening the scoring in the second half and then giving us a two-goal lead over a stubborn Newcastle side 12 minutes later, setting us on our way to a 3-0 victory.
It is the first of the wing-back’s two goals against Newcastle that has been chosen by the Blues supporters as our best in the month of October.
James showed great composure, as well as the power and precision of his shooting, when Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cross was headed in his direction by Magpies full-back Matt Ritchie’s attempted clearance. Our England international cut-back with his first touch to open the angle, before firing an unstoppable shot into the top corner with his less-favoured left foot.

That goal was one of seven from across our men’s, women’s and Academy sides to be nominated for the October Goal of the Month award, with more than 30,000 Chelsea fans taking part in the poll to decide the best.
James was the overwhelming winner, receiving 42 per cent of those votes. The first of Mason Mount’s three goals in the 7-0 home win over Norwich City, his first Chelsea hat-trick, came in second with 23 per cent, narrowly ahead of Ben Chilwell’s decisive strike as we triumphed 1-0 away at Brentford.
