If Billy Gilmour is selected by Steve Clarke to play in Scotland’s game later today, it will be his first match action since the last set of internationals a month ago.
Back then he was a starter in wins against Israel and Faroe Island and since those matches his loan club Norwich have played four times. For one of those games Gilmour was ineligible as it was against Chelsea but for the other three, he was an unused substitute. There is a big change taking place at Norwich with manager Daniel Farke dismissed after their last game. Frank Lampard was being spoken about as one of the contenders to take over there but recent reports state he has dropped out of the running.
Our head coach, Thomas Tuchel, was asked recently if he is going to bring Gilmour back to Chelsea when the transfer window reopens in January, given the 20-year-old has started just five games for the Canaries so far.‘We'll take the decision in January, when the decision has to be made, not now,’ responded Tuchel, who revealed he had taken the chance to talk with Gilmour when he was at Stamford Bridge when we hosted Norwich. On the original decision for the player to go out on loan, he added:‘The things were clear when we decided together that he is looking for more minutes and more game time in another club. The challenge was clear that he needs to fight his way through.‘Right now things are not going as he maybe wishes and we all wish for, but now is not the moment to already give solutions and cancel the whole project.
‘Sometimes these weeks and months arrive when the situation seems to be stuck or it seems not to go the right way. You have to hang in there, you have to show your quality and you have to make sure you help your team, no matter where it is. That sharpens your character. That will be making a big chapter in your career.‘For me right now it is not the moment to already give solutions for January and open the talks to bring him back. Now it is November and there is still a lot of time to prove that he has enough quality to help Norwich to be a better team.’A win for Scotland today away in Moldova will secure their place in the play-offs for World Cup qualification.
