Players from our Academy Under-12s and Under-13s have been involved in a variety of activities over the past week to mark Remembrance, culminating in victory in the Premier League's Truce Tournament national qualifiers.
The annual tournament involving Under-12 teams from Premier League academies was fittingly held on Remembrance Sunday and forms part of the Premier League's ‘Football Remembers’ initiative.
The young Blues travelled down to HMS Temeraire in Portsmouth and came out on top in a tough qualifying section, booking their place in December's international finals at St George's Park alongside teams from Germany, Belgium and France.
Prior to the qualifiers, the boys were involved in the Truce 2021 project 'Football & Friendships', which saw them visit the Imperial War Museum in London and take a guided tour around the World War One Galleries.
Ahead of our Premier League fixture against Burnley, the youngsters joined the Royal British Legion in a bucket collection for the Poppy Appeal outside Stamford Bridge, before taking part in a Truce Memorial Match at Cobham on Armistice Day.
This involved the players wearing poppy-embroidered shirts of the teams they support to show that, although they may have rivalries with their team-mates, they can still enjoy the sport they love together as friends. A two-minute silence was held before the game.
Meanwhile, players in the Under-13 age group wrote poems and letters from the point of view of soldiers in World War One, which were shared with the group in a classroom-based session. You can watch an overview of the group's activities in the video above.
