Reece James took his goal contribution tally to double figures courtesy of his special strike against Juventus in our 4-0 victory, with the England international having now provided five goals and five assists so far this season.
It was a dominant display from the Blues at the Bridge, but James’s Man of the Match performance earned him plenty of plaudits as he continues to shine under Thomas Tuchel’s management.
Speaking after last night’s win, which guaranteed qualification to the knockout phases of the Champions League, James was quick to share the the praise with his team-mates.
‘In football, nothing is done individually,' Reece said.
'It takes a team effort and a lot of hard work from all the players collectively as a group. I thought we did that and that’s why we performed so well.
‘It was a nice win at home, four-nil against a very good opposition. We knew it was going to be a tough game coming into it, but as the game went on, we found our rhythm and broke them down.’
What is James’s goalscoring form down to? ‘I think it is down to him [Tuchel],’ reckons Reece. ‘He wants our wing-backs to be very aggressive and attack whenever we get the chance.
‘Obviously scoring helps with anyone’s confidence but I believe in my own ability and so when I get a chance, I back myself.
‘It’s always nice when people think highly of you, but I’m still young and I’ve got a long way to go,’ he beamed.
James’s latest exceptional performance came on head coach Thomas Tuchel’s 50th game in charge. When asked on what the boss is like to play under, Reece highlighted his strong personality and man-management skills.
‘He is very ambitious,' added James. 'Very humble, he wants to win and you can see that in his passion when he is on the sideline.
‘He wants us to be the best we can, and he demands a very high level from us every day.’
James also admitted that the club are aiming for back-to-back European triumphs, with the draw for the knockout stage to be made on December 13.
‘That is definitely our aim,' Reece said of our Champions League chances. 'There is no reason why we can’t. You saw the quality of our performance against such a top side.
‘We just have to take it game by game and see where we can get to.’
