We have news of our Under-21s drawing another Academy side in this afternoon's Papa John's Trophy draw, plus details of a good win for our Under-18s in the morning...

Papa John's Trophy draw

Andy Myers and his boys will make the short trip to north London as the Arsenal Under-21s, the current PL2 leaders, will be their opponents in the third round of the Papa John's Trophy. With a number of players being involved in the PL2 fixture between these sides, it is a chance for us to give a better account of ourselves following the 6-1 loss we suffered in September.

The third round ties are due to be played in the week commencing Monday 3 January. The eight remaining sides after that will go through to an un-regionalised and unseeded quarter-final draw.

Under-18s report

Our Under-18s comprehensively beat Arsenal 4-1 at Cobham on Saturday morning, with Leo Castledine, Tudor Mendel-Idowu, Malik Mothersille and Louis Flower all getting on the scoresheet. It was a fantastic victory, which consolidates our lead at the top.

We started really well in this game but fell behind, arguably against the run of play, in the opening 15 minutes of the game. Fortunately, we were behind for no longer than five minutes as good pressure from the team saw Mendel-Idowu square a ball in the six-yard box, providing Casteldine with an easy tap-in.

A lovely team goal doubled our lead as Mendel-Idowu and Rak-Sakyi combined out wide, which allowed the former to compose himself nicely and slide an effort under the keeper.

The second half was more of the same application and head coach Ed Brand will have been impressed with how dominant we were. Edwin Andersson released Mothersille down the left hand-side and the calmness he showed to finish was fantastic.

Flower added gloss to the scoreline as on a cold morning in Cobham, our young Blues underlined why they are top of the Under-18 Premier League.
