Kai Havertz was back in team training for our final session before the long trip to St Petersburg, though Mateo Kovacic remained an absentee as Thomas Tuchel put his players through their paces at Cobham on Tuesday morning.
The Blues will make the 1,750-mile trip north-east later this afternoon, with Tuchel due to provide a more formal update on player availability when he holds a press conference at 1pm UK time. You can watch that live on The 5th Stand app and Chelsea website.
However, with the first 15 minutes of training today open to the world’s media via a live stream, the early indications are that Havertz is fit to travel after taking part in the session. The German was a doubt after limping off at half-time during our weekend defeat at West Ham.
Meanwhile, Kovacic will remain in London with Ben Chilwell, Trevoh Chalobah and N’Golo Kante who also all missed today’s training before the rest of Tuchel’s squad and staff head to Russia hoping to seal top spot in the group. A victory against Zenit would secure it, as would matching Juventus’s result at home to Malmo.
