Mason Mount’s past five Premier League starts have yielded six goals, proof he is back to his very best according to Thomas Tuchel.
Our no.19 came into this season off the back of Euro 2020. For him it was a tournament interrupted by a period of isolation which then ended in heartbreaking fashion as England were beaten by Italy on penalties in the final.
Like many Three Lions players who featured regularly over the summer, Mount has taken some time to reach top form again, but in recent weeks he has enjoyed a purple patch in front of goal to complement his typical graft and link-up play. It has earned words of praise from Tuchel.
‘We rely on him because he plays in an offensive position,’ said the boss.
‘He needs to be decisive and assist and score, because he has the technique, the ability and the movement to do so. It’s about timing, acceleration and knowing where and when to arrive in the box.
‘It’s about connections between Reece and him most of the time, depending on which side he plays. We cannot be surprised that sometimes in careers of young players they have difficult moments. That’s why they are young players, and why their careers are at the beginning and not the end.
‘The thing is to take care of him, guide him through these moments, to push him and trust him with what we do,’ added Tuchel.
‘Players always want to play, now he is back in a good shape and in full confidence, and with a bit of luck he will be the guy he can be.’
