The 21-year-old has mostly been deployed on the right side of a midfield three by Patrick Vieira this season, although he has also operated on the left and in a no.10 role behind a central striker.

Simply put, Gallagher has been Palace’s most consistently dangerous attacking player this season. He ranks top for goals scored (six), shots on target (14), shots outside the box (13), assists (three), chances created (27) and passes played into the box (82).

In all, he has been directly involved in 41 per cent of Palace’s goals in the Premier League this season. That is the highest figure for a team by any English player so far, while his nine goal involvements are the most of anyone aged 21 or under.

In the thick of things

Gallagher’s industry and energy has also stood out. He ranks joint-sixth in the Premier League for tackles won this season (42), and he is always in the heart of the midfield battle, ranking 14th for fouls won (24) and third for fouls conceded (28) across the league.
