Thomas Tuchel has said that Trevoh Chalobah will miss tomorrow night’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham through injury but Timo Werner could make his return.

The defender picked up a knock against Liverpool and tomorrow evening’s first leg against Antonio Conte’s Spurs will come too soon for the Academy graduate. Andreas Christensen remains a doubt but Timo Werner looks set to return to the squad according to Tuchel, after rejoining full training with no adverse issues this week.

‘Andreas is a doubt for tomorrow,’ the German said at his pre-match press conference.

‘Trevoh is definitely out for tomorrow because he has had a reinjury from before.

‘Timo Werner trained yesterday, we have one more session to go and he feels much better which is a really good sign.

He took part in full training, at full intensity and had no reaction at all. If today’s training goes well for him then we will look to have him on the bench and maybe give him some minutes.’

The boss was also asked by journalists to comment on media speculation regarding Antonio Rudiger’s future, with reports suggesting club’s have opened talks with his representatives over signing a pre-contract agreement now the transfer window has opened.

Tuchel was firm in his stance – he wants Rudiger to stay at Chelsea – and confirmed that the Blues are in discussions with the German over a new deal, but as of yet there is nothing official to report on that front.

‘I cannot predict the future and I don't know if his representatives are talking to other clubs or not,’ Thomas answered on Rudiger questions.

‘Of course, it is possible they are right now [talking to other clubs] as it is January and he hasn't signed a new contract with us yet but we are in communication with him, the club is in dialogue with his people.

‘Toni is very aware of what I demand from him and how much I appreciate him. The level on which he is playing is outstanding.

‘The point on Toni from my side is very clear, my opinion is clear and the club is trying their very best with him.’
