Chelsea tipped for ‘incredible’ triple swoop
FourFourTwo are reporting that Thomas Tuchel could make as many as three major signings ahead of next season.
The Blues are battling across the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the League Cup, having already landed the Super Cup earlier this season, and the football magazine believes the Blues could add three new players to our ranks by the time the next campaign gets underway.
‘Chelsea are set to spend a breathtaking £189m on three players, in a bid to strengthen their squad further,’ states the report.
‘Top of the list, perhaps unsurprisingly, is Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker is a target for a number of top clubs, with Barcelona rising surprisingly as one of the favourites for his signature in recent days.
‘Blues owner Roman Abramovich will not have to beat off Barca for the forward's signature but the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
‘Ousmane Dembele is another Dortmund alumnus interesting Chelsea.
‘The World Cup winner had the best season of his career working under Thomas Tuchel in the Bundesliga. Since making a nine-figure move to Barcelona, things have not panned out as well for Dembele and he is now just months away from becoming a free agent.
‘Lucas Digne completes the trio of players that the Blues are targeting.’
Dest move suggested once again
The Daily Mail are claiming that Sergino Dest is again being eyed as a possible January signing for Chelsea.
The Barcelona man, who can play in both full-back positions or higher up as a right-winger, is down the pecking order under Xavi at Camp Nou and rumours of a mid-season switch from La Liga won’t go away.
The Daily Mail are now suggesting that Dest could link up with his US international team-mate Christian Pulisic at Stamford Bridge.
‘Chelsea have made an approach for Barcelona full-back Sergino Dest, who is valued at €20m (£16.7m),’ states the tabloid newspaper.
‘Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid are also interested in the 21-year-old USA international.
‘Thomas Tuchel is keen to bolster his options on the right-hand side of defence, with Cesar Azpilicueta currently out of contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of the campaign.’
Carney praises Alonso’s ‘aggression’
Former Chelsea Women’s star and now BBC pundit, Karen Carney, singled out Marcos Alonso for praise during our Carabao Cup semi-final first leg win over Tottenham.
The Spaniard played a key role for Kai Havertz’s opener in the 2-0 home victory, winning the ball high up the pitch before releasing a pass into the German’s path who finished with confidence.
Carney, who was covering the cup tie for the BBC, explained why Alonso’s role in the early opener should not be overlooked.
‘It was a brilliant start from Chelsea,’ Carney told BBC Radio 5 Live.
‘The goal was all about Alonso. He’s aggressive in a high area, snaps onto the ball and takes a touch.
‘His pass to Havertz was amazing and when Havertz's takes his shot, I'm not sure whether it would have maybe been cleared off the line but Davinson Sanchez deflected it in such was the power.
‘Tottenham really struggled with Chelsea's change of shape to a back four.’
