Chelsea duo N’Golo Kante and Thiago Silva returned to Chelsea training today after completing their periods of isolation following recent positive Covid-19 tests.
The pair were ruled out of both cup ties the Blues played last week, one of which being the 2-0 first leg Carabao Cup victory over Spurs, but have now returned to full training at Cobham in what is a huge boost for boss Thomas Tuchel ahead of the return leg.
The Bavarian had hinted in his pre-match press conference earlier that they could feature in training today if they returned negative Covid tests but admitted playing tomorrow evening could be ‘risky’.
Defenders Cesar Azpilicueta, Marcos Alonso and Antonio Rudiger, all missing from Saturday’s squad against Chesterfield, also took part at our Surrey training complex.
Long-term absentees Reece James and Ben Chilwell remain sidelined, but the return of Thiago Silva and Kante is pivotal ahead of a busy few weeks which sees us compete in the Carabao Cup, Premier League and then the FA Cup again before we depart to take part in our fifth competition of the season, the Club World Cup.
